Low-resistors/subwoofers
While many full-range systems produce almost the entire frequency range required for speech and music reproduction, the deep bass necessary for a complete music experience is often missing. For this reason, manufacturers who market quality systems almost always also produce subwoofers Subwoofers complement existing fullrange systems in the low end. The frequency range in which they take over playback from the fullrange 'tops' is very critical. An incorrectly set takeover area can extremely negatively affect sound quality. Adjustment can be a difficult job, but fortunately there are systems that have presets in which the subwoofers and tops are optimally matched. Depending on the application, subwoofers with drivers of different sizes can be chosen. For touring productions, size and weight may be decisive, while for fixed installations, only performance may be important. In the former case, for instance, there is a choice of subwoofers with drivers from 12-inch upwards, and in the latter, subwoofers with multiple 18-inch drivers can even be chosen. A good example are the products of German quality brand Voice-Acoustic. They supply separate amplifiers with presets for all combinations of their speakers, and some of their subwoofers have a built-in amplifier that immediately provides optimal distribution of signals for the subwoofer(s) and the fullrange speakers used with them. These active subwoofers form a perfect basis for rental sets, as the set-up is extremely simple. The number of components in such a set is minimal and tuning is in the form of ready-made presets.Application
As a general rule, line array systems almost always feature subwoofers and fixed sound systems with (very) compact speakers cannot do without subwoofers either.Integration
