When hoisting light, set or audio equipment, it is of utmost importance to monitor and/or record the forces applied to the hoist. Load cells can be used to measure and continuously monitor the load.

How do you read a load cell?

Load cells, also known as weighing cells, are mounted between the load and the hoist to keep track of the force applied to the installation. The reading is transmitted electrically to a receiving device. This can be a specific associated device with its own display/readout, or a universal load cell processor, such as the NLP load cell processor that comes with 4, 8, 12 and 16 inputs. The processors are equipped with outputs that force an emergency stop depending on a threshold value.

Shackle and dog-bone

The measuring elements themselves are often in the shape of a shackle, double or not. In addition, they may be designed as a dog-bone.
Via an NLP cable (XLR), the measurements are sent to the processor. Load cells are available for various applications with varying load capacities.
