CRI represents a value indicating the extent to which a light source is able to reproduce colours faithfully. With LED light sources, this often results in compromises: with high light output, the CRI value goes down, a higher CRI value costs light output. Currently, the common compromise is high-CRI or HCRI; a choice is made for a certain balance between light output and colour rendering. Critical costume and set designers get to see the colours they have in mind, and lighting designers get more than enough leeway with regard to light output.
