Monitor speakers
Loudspeakers that allow musicians and actors to better hear themselves and their fellow performers on stage. It is an indispensable part of sound engineering at pop and jazz concerts, although these days in-ear monitoring is also widely used.
Especially with amplified music, it is crucial to have a system on stage such that the musicians can independently determine what they hear. After all, depending on the position on stage, specific fellow musicians may not be heard as well, and vocalists in particular like to hear a balanced mix of themselves and the other musicians on stage.

Wedge
Monitor speakers have slightly different requirements than FOH (front of house) speakers. Since they are on stage, it is very important that they are as visually unobtrusive as possible. On this basis, a wedge is chosen in the vast majority of cases; a wedge-shaped enclosure that is more or less optimally directed towards the user due to the angle the front makes with respect to the floor.
This shape has consequences for the location of the connections, and the concealment of the cables connected to it also plays an important role.
Feedback
In terms of sound quality, the requirements are just as high as for FOH speakers, but there are additional requirements. The distribution must be aimed at getting as much sound as possible to the musician or singer, so that fellow singers and musicians are not presented with a different sound image compared to what they themselves need to play.
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that if the sound level from the monitor speakers gets too high, the system may cause feedback. The design of the monitor loudspeaker should be such that additional provisions are made for this.
It goes without saying that monitors should be capable of producing sufficient sound pressure, but there are circumstances where sound quality is preferable to sound pressure. This applies, for example, to the reproduction of backing tracks in ballet, musicals and solo artists.
